Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta in controversy over artisan garment

Tenoch Huerta was embroiled in controversy following the complaint of cultural promoter Luz Valdéz, for modifying a garment made by a Purépecha artisan, and not giving her credit.

According to the influencer, the actor wore a feather garment converted into a cape at Milan Fashion Week, originally made by Feliciana Hernández, a piece that was presented as the work of designer Diana Buendía in collaboration with Hijos del Maíz.

“Feliciana sold this Purépecha shawl to an intermediary without knowing that the intention was to make a cape, so, no, that cannot be called a collaboration. (…) The least they can do is apologize for cutting Feliciana’s shawl without her consent and promoting it without mentioning its authorship and saying they don’t know her,” she complained on social media.

Likewise, she said that the artisan asked her for help in recognizing her work, to which Poder Prieto, the collective of which Huerta is a part, stated that it was not true and that they had contacted Hernández directly for her to meet the actor.

After this, Valdéz reported that she had been the victim of intimidation and that she was tired of “their disqualifications, their blackmail, the psychological violence they have exerted on me, their false accusations.

Shortly thereafter, Hijos del Maíz issued a public apology for not giving credit to Feliciana, while Huerta issued a statement regretting what had happened.

He pointed out that it was not the way to deal with things and that although he was not aware of the facts and found out late “I cannot ignore what happened (…). It was wrong and it only affects our struggle, we definitely have to meditate and correct it.
