Claudia Sheinbaum denounces misogyny from colleagues

Claudia Sheinbaum, the Head of Government of Mexico City, stated that she faces discrimination from colleagues in Morena (political party) because she is a woman aspiring to the presidency in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“Well, of course, there is a part of misogyny in society, even among colleagues. But what is important here, I believe, is what the people think. I think the people of Mexico are increasingly considering women for different positions, not just in popular elections,” she explained.

However, the official avoided naming names and instead celebrated the fact that Mexico is changing, especially “in terms of women’s rights and their participation in public life.”

Sheinbaum, the first female Head of Government in history, is also the only woman among the potential candidates from Morena for the next year’s elections.

Her rivals include Marcelo Ebrard, the country’s Chancellor; Adán López, the Secretary of Governance; and Ricardo Monreal, the party leader in the Senate. However, according to polls, she is the most likely candidate to secure the nomination.
