An attack  against municipal police officers unleashed a strong shootout between agents and armed civilians in Celaya, Guanajuato, which left one officer dead and three criminals killed.

The above occurred on Sunday, January 28 at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tresguerras Avenue, almost on the corner of Guanajuato, in the Tresguerras neighborhood, where municipal agents were surprised by armed individuals while patrolling the area.

The agents repelled the attack, allowing the attackers to escape into the streets. Agents from the three levels of Government arrived at the scene of the events to support the attacked police officers.

Authorities deployed a strong operation through the Tresguerras, Jardines and Del Bosque neighborhoods.

A municipal police officer was seriously injured and died from his injuries while receiving medical attention.

Later, also in Celaya, explosive devices were thrown at the facilities of the  Northern Command and  C2 on Celaya’s Constitución Avenue but they failed to detonate.

This attack against municipal police in Celaya occurs just a few days after four agents were ambushed and murdered on the  Salvatierra-Celaya federal highway on January 25 , near the community of  Santa María del Refugio.
