There are more than 42 thousand foreigners from 36 different countries who live in Guanajuato, the vast majority due to job opportunities.

If you live in León, San Miguel, or Guanajuato Capital, don’t be surprised if one day you discover that your neighbor is Greek, Chilean, Ukrainian, Salvadoran, American, Canadian, or perhaps originally from Togo, a country in West Africa.

Meeting foreigners who decided to stay and live in Guanajuato is increasingly common: there are more than 42,000 citizens from 36 countries, from four of the five continents, who officially live in the state, reveal data collected by Inegi.

The arrival of foreign companies and the growing migration of citizens from Central and South America en route to the northern border are some of the factors that have led thousands of foreign immigrants to stay and live in Guanajuato.

It is no longer an exclusive phenomenon of San Miguel de Allende, which houses a community of 10,000 citizens of American origin.

In the last five years, more than 27 thousand people from abroad changed their residence to Guanajuato, including thousands of Mexicans who used to live in the United States and decided to return to their homeland.
