In addition to the exhibition, there will be a free workshop at ‘El Nicromante’ in San Miguel de Allende, where you can learn to create your own ‘Healing Blanket’
San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- The Ignacio Ramírez “El Nicromante” Cultural Center received the exhibition ‘The Patchwork Healing Blanket’ / ‘La Manta de Curación‘. An independent public and social art project promoted by a collective with more than 600 women and girls, between 6 and 80 years old, around the world, inspired by patchwork, an ancient technique in which scraps of fabric are joined together to create quilts or blankets.
The exhibition is made up of hundreds of pieces, measuring 70 by 70 centimeters and includes various techniques: embroidery, painting, engraving, printing, writing and collage. Textile art is used as a form of peaceful activism, so that society becomes aware of violence against women and children.
This is how you can make your own Healing Blanket in San Miguel de Allende
Within the framework of the exhibition, several conversations will be held with women members of the colective, artists and groups of women activists, as well as free sessions for the community of San Miguel de Allende to make their own healing blanket and join this project that grows piece by piece, country by country.
The director of the Nigromante, Laura Bustos, said “one of the hallmarks will be the participation of women, who live and visit San Miguel de Allende, in the intervention of a Mojiganga –an iconic figure of the city–, who will join the message of awareness against the many forms of violence against women. The participants will also join in the workshops, among which the frame and pedal loom workshop stands out.”
