Tequisquiapan is a charming town in the state of Querétaro, Mexico, that attracts visitors with its colonial architecture, vineyards, cheese production, handicrafts, and natural hot springs. It is one of the designated pueblos mágicos, or magical towns, of Mexico, for its cultural and historical significance.

The town’s center is known as the Hidalgo Square, where the Santa María de la Asunción Church stands out with its pink sandstone facade and neoclassical style. Around the square, there are many restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and shops selling local specialties such as sweets, silver, opal, baskets, and furniture. The square also hosts live music and performances, especially during festivals and holidays.

One of the main attractions of Tequisquiapan is its thermal waters, which are said to have healing properties and offer relaxation and wellness. There are several spas and water parks in and around the town, where visitors can enjoy swimming pools, water slides, hydro pools, waterfalls, and massages. Some of the most popular ones are El Oasis, Thermas del Rey, Fidel Velásquez, and La Vega.

Another reason to visit Tequisquiapan is its wine and cheese production, which is celebrated every year at the National Cheese and Wine Fair. The fair showcases the products of local vineyards and cheese factories, as well as offering tastings, concerts, workshops, and contests. Tequisquiapan is part of the Querétaro Wine Route, which includes other nearby towns such as Ezequiel Montes, Bernal, and Cadereyta.

Tequisquiapan is only 72 miles east of San Miguel

Tequisquiapan is a perfect destination for those who want to experience the magic of a traditional Mexican town, with its colorful streets, friendly people, delicious food, and natural beauty. It is also a great base to explore the surrounding attractions, such as the Peña de Bernal, the third-largest monolith in the world, the opal mines of San Antonio de la Cal, and the historic city of Querétaro.
