The work of San Miguel painter Nicolás Cuéllar is on exhibition

In 1956, Diego Rivera described Cuellar as a “monster of painting.” Today he is considered a genius who created worlds full of symbolism.

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- The painter from San Miguel de Allende, Nicolás Cuéllar, has an exhibition in the mezzanine of the Ángela Peralta theater. 

Cuellar passed away in 2010 and in 2012 his work was recognized as one of the most detailed artists in the city; His work presents the affection that the San Miguel native had for his town and his emblematic buildings.

Nicolás Cuéllar was named “The painter of San Miguel de Allende for the world” in 2012, he had an active artistic life in his home studio, where he received thousands of people interested in his work ‘Nationals and Foreigners’ where he exhibited and sold part of his work.

His life as a painter was characterized by intense work, he explored unpublished worlds within his characteristic surrealist style, which took him to the limits of creative innovation. His series “ Raza cósmica” stands out , or his exceptional “ Nicolás’ Games ” which is a self-projection of his happy childhood. He also did sculpture, restoration, muralism and stucco, to a lesser extent.

In 1956, Diego Rivera described Cuellar as a “ monster of painting .” Today he is considered a multithematic and multifaceted genius who created worlds full of symbolism, but always with elements of his nationality and in particular of his city. The parish of San Miguel Arcángel is another protagonist in his works.

The exhibition is supported by the San Miguel Culture Department and will be valid until Friday, February 23, free for all visitors. Nicolás Cuéllar died in 2010 and in that year he signed his last works, he never stopped working.

 

The Nicolás Cuéllar exhibition is open to the public in the mezzanine of the Ángela Peralta theater.
