Unfinished Puente del Carmen represents a danger to the population in SMA

After 12 years of total abandonment, the unfinished Puente del Carmen has become a real danger for motorists and pedestrians.

The Puente del Carmen community almost had its own bridge. It was a work that promised vehicles to cross the road without risk, but after 12 years of abandonment, there is no more hope of its completion. Today it is a large white elephant that lies by the San Miguel-Querétaro highway.

The unfinished bridge is located just 7 kilometers from the San Miguel de Allende exit. Its objective was to ensure that vehicles leaving the community could cross the road without danger.

The construction managed to complete the exit ramp, and the crossing of the two lanes of the highway, but not the entrance ramp. According to the residents of Puente del Carmen, the work was not completed because the owner of the land where the ramp would rest did not sell the property.

The construction of the bridge started during the administration of Lucy Núñez (mayor of SMA from 2009-2012) when the work began, but it is not known if it was a municipal or state government project. And, according to information from the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, there is no record whatsoever of this work. The Secretary of Works of the State Government, told the local media that this work was not in the state inventory.
