Fentanyl operation detected in Guanajuato

Fentanyl, the dangerous drug that has triggered a health crisis in the United States and Canada, has already been detcted in the state of Guanajuato.

Although its consumption in Mexico has been focused mainly on border cities such as Tijuana, Nogales, or Ciudad Juárez, the state of Guanajuato has started to register cases of its use in the region, reveals the report from the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board.

The report was prepared based on the results of the Mexican Observatory of Mental Health and Drug Consumption.

Public security authorities confirm the seizure of several doses of fentanyl in Guanajuato, highlighting the importance of operations to combat the trafficking and consumption of this drug. 

Last week, the Secretary of Public Security of the State, Alvaro Cabeza de Vaca Appendini, confirmed that 49 doses of fentanyl were seized, as part of the operations against drug sales in the state of Guanajuato.

The official clarified that the 49 doses were confiscated from a single person, which confirms that this substance is already for sale in the streets of Guanajuato.

In addition to these doses of fentanyl, the Secretary of Public Security reported that in 2023, a total of 399,190 doses of crystal, 1,939 doses of cocaine, 1,336 doses of psychotropic pills, 10,852 doses of crack cocaine, and 1,915 doses of heroin were seized by the Guanajuato State authorities.
