The exhibition Searching for Aphrodite by artist Glen Rogers is now open to the public at the Amarillo78 Gallery in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.
The North American artist with 20 years of residence in Mexico will also exhibit in California, New York, North Carolina and Mexico City. I you want to check out her work, admission is free at Calzada de la Aurora 51.
Glen Rogers has lived in San Miguel de Allende since 2017 and recent public sculptures include Flutter at the El Charco del Ingenuity Botanical Garden in San Miguel de Allende and Throne for a Goddess, Kunstpark St. Ruprecht Raab, Austria.
Her upcoming exhibitions include Gender GAP , in San Ramon, California; Crossing Borders at Westbeth Gallery in New York City and Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery in North Carolina.
She will also have a solo exhibition at the Museo de la Mujer, in Mexico City, in April/May 2024. Glen’s publications include her book, Symbols of the Spirit: A Meditative Journey Through Art; Oracle Deck of Spirit Cards; and her upcoming Sacred Feminine Wisdom oracle deck.
The exhibition “Looking for Aphrodite” refers to the pilgrimages that the artist has made to sacred places around the world, specifically to the cultures of the goddesses of the Neolithic and Paleolithic.
“I have been following the thread of pre-Hellenic goddesses before their myths were distorted by a patriarchal religion and society. The early stories of Gaia and Hera, Artemis and Aphrodite, celebrate the mysteries of the sacred feminsm and connect us to our divine beginnings,” Glen Rogers explained.
Rogers recalled that upon returning to her studio, she made a series of monoprints that look like ancient documents in honor of the first goddesses.
The exhibition is open to the general public at the Yellow Gallery 78, which is located just under the bridge, next to the La Aurora factory.
