On Monday, March 4th, presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez presented her security strategy assuring that she “will take care of things”, stating that she will not blame previous presidents, including AMLO.
“This strategy takes into account the disaster in which we are receiving the country, that the a great part of the Mexican territory is in the hands of organized crime,” the candidate said.
Of the 15 points that are part of her strategy, she highlighted that “no more hugs for criminals”, and her administration will act with all the strength and capacity of the State.
Galvez proposes demilitarizing the country, offering professional salaries as well as training to police officers, doubling the number of public ministries, judges and members of the army, and using technology and artificial intelligence to combat crime.
Xochitl also stated that she plans to build a maximum security prison, contain and reduce criminal organizations, guarantee a civic justice system, provide care to victims and develop a national strategy for social reconciliation.
Finally, her strategy would consider Human Rights as a guarantee of peace, the right of a Free Press (including the corresponding protection to journalists), and strengthen international cooperation for peace.
