“Parts of Mexico are controlled by organized crime” (Avril Haines, US Director of National Intelligence)

Avril Haines, director of the U.S. National Intelligence Center, assured that several parts of Mexico’s territory are already totally controlled by drug trafficking.

(Washington D.C. – TMM) – Senator Angus King, an independent from Maine, questioned the directors about the control of criminal groups in Mexico. “There is no question that it is a challenge for the government of Mexico to deal with the cartels, and there are some parts of the country that are effectively under the control of the cartels in certain respects,” Haines responded during a hearing of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, in which the heads of agencies such as the FBI, the CIA, and the National Security and Defense Intelligence agencies were present.

Regarding the fentanyl trafficking crisis, FBI Director Christopher Wray noted that these drugs are “small and easy to conceal,” making it “easy” to innovate in terms of movement. The vast majority of the fentanyl that is killing Americans, of course, comes through Mexico, and the vast majority of the precursor chemicals to make it come from China,” Wray added.
