International Dance Day 2024 is celebrated annually on April 29th

International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.

International Dance Day has been celebrated on 29 April every year since 1982. The day marks the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.

International Dance Day, also known as World Dance Day, is annually celebrated on the 29th of April, commemorating the birthday of the father of modern ballet, Jean-Georges Noverre.

The day, apart from celebrating the art, honours dance forms worldwide. On this day, people participate in various functions where they also acquire knowledge about different dance forms from different parts of the world.

This special day is all about celebrating the amazing art of dance and showing how it brings people together. We want everyone to know that dance is important, no matter where you come from or what you believe in.

International Dance Day was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute ITI, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO. Since its creation in 1982, the International Dance Committee and the International Theatre Institute ITI select an outstanding dance personality to write a message for International Dance Day each year. This day is a celebration day for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “dance”, and acts as a wake-up-call for governments, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognised its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realised its potential for economic growth.
