Mexican wins international photography award with image of Tren Maya’s devastation

Mexican photographer wins international photography award with image that illustrates environmental devastation of the Mayan Train.

Fernando Martínez Belmar won the most important competition in the world in Nature Photography: the Wildlife Photographer of the Year from the Natural History Museum in London.

It is the second consecutive year that the Yucatecan has won this award now in the “Photojournalism” category.

The image taken in Paamul, Quintana Roo, is titled “The Tourism Bulldozer”, which shows the area devastated by the construction of the Mayan Train.

The photograph was taken with a drone, Fernando had to cross 4 kilometers of underground caves to be able to achieve it.
