The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) allocated 16.7 bilion pesos to carry out studies concerning the construction of airports in Ensenada, Baja California and San Miguel de Allende.

According to the report from the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the SICT will carry out these actions to provide for the development of airport infrastructure in phases, in the short, medium, and long term.

“The studies include the execution of various surveys to know the level of groundwater and the different layers of soil, to determine the layer with sufficient bearing capacity to dislodge the buildings, as well as carry out proposals for foundation solutions”, it indicated.

The SICT pointed out that the construction of this new infrastructure in the country is part of the actions to strengthen the national airport system.

The agency specified that in the case of Ensenada, soil studies will be carried out regarding its hydrological and archaeological characteristics.

This city in the north of the country is characterized by its port activity and its coastal area, in addition to having tourist attractions such as whale watching and the National and Regional History museum.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) reported that in the case of San Miguel de Allende, pavement monitoring studies are being carried out at the proposed site for the construction of the airport.

This destination, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is known for its baroque architecture and its tourist products for weddings and all types of meetings.

The agency pointed out that another important project they are working on, through Airports and Auxiliary Services, is the modernization of the Puerto Escondido airport, where an investment of more than 2 billion pesos is being made.

Another infrastructure that was recently inaugurated was the Tulum air terminal, where the government invested 15 billion pesos.
