Stage falls at Movimiento Ciudadano event in Nuevo León due to strong winds (Watch Video)

A stage fell during an event in which Jorge Álvarez Máynez, presidential candidate for the Citizen Movement (MC), and Lorenia Canavati, candidate for the municipal presidency of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, participated.

Data confirmed by the governor of Nuevo León himself, Samuel García, indicates that at 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, there were nine deaths, including a minor, as well as more than 60 injuries.

Zoé Robledo, director of the IMSS, confirmed that at 9:50 p.m., 35 people were admitted to the Family Medicine Unit No. 7, and 3 of them were transferred to the High Specialty Medical Unit No. 21 in Monterrey.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) also regretted the events. “I regret the accident in San Pedro Garza García, caused by a strong wind during the event attended by Jorge Álvarez Máynez, presidential candidate for Movimiento Ciudadano, and other militants, leaders and candidates of that party.”

On the other hand, the presidential candidate reported that he was fine after the incident at the closing of the Canavati campaign and that he went for a medical check-up at a hospital.

It was through social networks that the candidate published: “After the accident in San Pedro Garza, where a gust of wind collapsed the stage where we were, I went to the San José hospital. I am fine and in communication with state authorities to follow up on what happened. The only important thing right now is to care for the victims of the accident.”

In a second message, Álvarez Máynez confirmed that among the injured were members of his team and reported that he was on his way to the scene.

“The members of my team who were injured are already being treated in the hospital. “I am heading back to the scene of the events to accompany the victims,” he indicated.

The MC candidate stated that he would be at the site “until the last injured person is transferred to a hospital.”

Finally, he reported that his visit to Tlaxcala and Hidalgo scheduled for May 23 is cancelled; and will continue in Nuevo León.
