As part of the next International Fair of Pueblos Mágicos, which will be held from June 28 to 30, the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, highlighted the economic importance of tourism in the 178 municipalities that are home to the 177 Magical Towns of Mexico.
Accompanied by the Consul General of Mexico in San Antonio, Rubén Minutti, Torruco Marqués presented relevant data on the economy, population, infrastructure, and environment, highlighting that tourism represents 13% of the economy in these locations.
The Secretary of Tourism reported that the Pueblos Mágicos have 7,039 lodging establishments and 15,166 rooms, in addition to a population of 10,721,631 inhabitants.
In terms of tourism infrastructure, these figures represent 27.6% and 18.1% of the national total, respectively.
Torruco Marqués detailed that in 2018, the Pueblos Mágicos had 77,215 businesses related to tourism, employing 300,254 people and generating income of 197,283 million pesos.
These data highlight the importance of these locations in the country’s tourism economy. Among the entities with the greatest participation in Magic Towns, tourism is Zacatecas at 29.06%, Chiapas at 25.29%, the State of Mexico at 19.15%, and Veracruz at 15.12%.
Quintana Roo is located along with Tlaxcala, Puebla, Yucatán, Coahuila, and Baja California Sur among the states with significant contributions in this area.
The state of Quintana Roo has four Magical Towns which are Bacalar, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, and Tulum.
