Unemployment reaches 1.6 million Mexicans in May (National Survey of Occupation and Employment)

According to INEGI, of all unemployed Mexicans, at least one million were men and around 632 thousand were women.

In May, almost 1.6 million Mexicans were unemployed or looking for a job, which represented a decrease of 148,766 people compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

With the figure reported by the organization, the unemployment rate in Mexico reached a level of 2.6 percent, similar to that reported last month and which by then meant a rebound after reaching its lowest point in history of 2.3 percent. hundred.

According to Inegi, of all unemployed Mexicans, at least one million were men and around 632 thousand were women.

For more than 708 thousand people, unemployment lasted up to a month, while for more than 522 thousand the period was one to three months.

When presenting the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), corresponding to May, the Inegi explained that in the reference period 59.8 million people were employed, which represents an annual increase of 1.6 million.
