Where to find Lucha Libre masks in San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.- Fighters of yesteryear such as Matemático, El Solitario, Canek and the classics Santo and Blue Demon live in the collective unconscious of Mexicans through their iconic masks.

In the Ignacio Ramírez market in San Miguel de Allende, Doña Irma Flores has been selling Lucha Libre masks for more than 10 years, when wrestling shows came to San Miguel every weekend.

To the surprise of Doña Irma, who thought of this product as a souvenir for those who attended the fights, the masks attracted the attention of foreign tourists, who, attracted by the colors, bought them as a souvenir of their visit to Mexico.

Furthermore, in recent years, wedding planners have also become Doña Irma’s clients, foreigners who come to get married in the city seek the experience of Mexican folklore and it has become fashionable to distribute wrestler masks among the guests.

At her stall, where she also sells traditional toys, she offers a wide variety of masks that she supplies in Mexico City.

The classic wrestlers are the most sought after and the Blue Demon and Santo skins are the best sellers, but there are dozens of different skins. Prices fluctuate between 160 and 180 pesos.
