Kamala Harris collected donations of US$55 million in a matter of hours after Biden dropped out

US Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has collected more than $55 million in donations since US President Joe Biden dropped out of the election race. Politico newspaper reports this, citing data from the ActBlue platform, which collects funds for Democrats.

As of 10:00 p.m. ET, small donations to Harris’ campaign totaled more than $55 million, according to the newspaper. Politico previously reported that donations to Biden’s campaign, which totaled about $95 million as of the end of June, will go to Harris’s campaign after the incumbent leaves the race. In turn, The Washington Examiner noted that the funds would have to be reimbursed to donors if Harris were the party’s nominee, but another politician.

Politico notes that at least 26 Democratic US senators and 72 members of the US House of Representatives supported Harris’ nomination as a presidential candidate by Sunday evening. In addition, many US state governors have come out in support of Harris, including New Jersey, New York, California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
