The Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in SMA will be managed by Hilton and will feature 120 hotel rooms and 24 private residences in San Miguel de Allende.

A large metal structure draws the attention of neighbors and visitors who pass through the El Cardo area, very close to the historic center of San Miguel de Allende. The fence surrounds the old parking lot announcing the start of construction of Waldorf Astoria, a complex that will mix hotel rooms and luxury residences.

Over the years, the people of San Miguel have witnessed the transformations of this space, which went from being a large, open-access dirt road, where athletes went to run and play soccer, to becoming an ISSEG parking lot, with a pharmacy included, which always looked empty.

We are talking about 15,386 square meters of land located on Calzada del Cardo number 12, in downtown San Miguel de Allende, ceased to be part of the inventory of the Social Security Institute of the State of Guanajuato in 2016 when, through an auction, it was sold for 185 million pesos to a private company.

Since then its operation has been intermittent, the space that has 692 parking spaces has served as such during events that brought together a large number of attendees in Parque Juárez, which is located just a few meters from the place; as a venue for tourist events or the promotion of local producers, and even as a venue for vaccination days during the pandemic.

Today, with the placement of perimeter fences that prevent visibility, the people know that another big project is coming: a new luxury hotel that will be part of the San Miguel scene.

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts will be managed by Hilton and will have 120 hotel rooms and 24 private residences, as well as a state-of-the-art gym, Spa, terrace with swimming pools, art gallery, children’s and teens’ club, three restaurants, two bars, and a cafeteria, as well as a craft store.

The project is scheduled to be inaugurated at the beginning of next year.
