The San Miguel Chamber Music Festival began 38 years ago when, under the direction of Carmen Massip Hawkins, a dedicated group of music lovers established the tradition of presenting high performance chamber musicians in San Miguel de Allende.
Since 1978 until this year, the festival has presented more than 100 groups and soloists from all continents. The rationale of the Festival is education, and every year offers young advanced students of Mexico and North America the opportunity to participate in workshops and master classes led by the quartet-in-residence of the Festival, as well as guest groups.
This year, the festival will begin on July 28 and will end on August 27. It will be held at the Ángela Peralta Teather and will feature performers such as Anacrúsax, considered the premier saxophone quartet ensemble in Mexico; Jeremy Denk one of America’s foremost pianists; Soprano Jane Dutton who has performed at many of the world’s top opera houses, among many other talented musicians from all over the globe.
