The Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guanajuato, Mexico, Mr. Fernando Olivera Rocha, arrived in New York City on July 19th to kick off Guanajuato Days NYC. The two-day visit included meetings with local business and travel industry leaders, professionals, and media, as well as a reception to celebrate San Miguel de Allende’s No. 3 global ranking in Travel + Leisure’s 2016 World’s Best Cities. The designation also garnered the city the distinction of No. 1 City in Mexico and Central and South America. Joining the Secretary at marquee events was a visiting delegation of dignitaries from the state which included, San Miguel de Allende’s Mayor, Ricardo Villarreal Garcia.
“We are proud to be the home state of one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the world,” said Secretary Fernando Olivera. “San Miguel de Allende is extraordinarily unique in its combination of architecture, culture, cuisine, color and character. We are happy and excited to personally share the state of Guanajuato with travel industry leaders and media in New York, as well as take the opportunity to celebrate San Miguel de Allende’s World’s Best Award with the world.”
In addition to meetings with travel industry leaders and media, the Guanajuato Days agenda included a “Discover Guanajuato” travel trade luncheon at world-renowned Chef Enrique Olvera’s Flatiron Mexican restaurant, Cosme, on Wednesday, July 20th. The lunch was followed on Thursday, July 21st, by a closing evening reception at New York’s highest rooftop bar, Bar 54. Both events were at capacity with guests enjoying a destination presentation on both occasions, as well as the presentation of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best 2016 Award at the reception.
