Former soccer player shot in Guanajuato

Víctor Hugo Saldaña Gutiérrez, former soccer player of “Atlético de San Luis”, was allegedly murdered by two subjects, during a shooting occurred in a restaurant in the municipality of “Purísima del Rincón”, Guanajuato on Saturday January 28.

Two gunmen on motorcycles killed “La Cabra” (Victor Hugo’s nickname in the soccer world), the incident took place in a seafood restaurant next to Alameda Park, the two suspects arrived onsite and without any explanation shot the man at point blank range.

During the shooting, three other people were injured, who were also taken to the Hospital “La Purísima”, where the soccer player was officially pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in chest and head.

Víctor Hugo was born on November 8, 1994, so he was only 23 years old. He debuted with Real Lions in third division during the period 2012-2013, and then he played 9 official soccer matches with “Escuadra Guanajuatense

From 2013 to 2014 he played for “Deportivo Colegio Guanajuato”, starting at least 30 games and scoring four goals.

In 2014, at 20 years of age, he was drafted by “Atlético San Luis” during “Apertura 2014 tournament” where he played three matches.

Saldaña went to live in San Luis Potosi to play the “Clausura 2015 tournament”. He played a total of thirteen games, ten of them in the starting line-up.
