Miguel Márquez Márquez, Governor of Guanajuato, announced that he has decided to reduce his own salary by 16%.
It will go from level 22 to level 20, in the “state’s salaries tabulator”, that means his paycheck will go from $211,452.45 pesos (9,611 USD) per month, to $177,425.47 pesos (8,064 USD) per month.
On Tuesday January 10, governor Márquez made this official announcement through social networks, explaining that this measure is being taken in order to save a considerable amount of money that will be used to help the most vulnerable social sectors, and emphasized that politicians and public workers must be aware of the current economic situation in the country.
Márquez declared that the salaries of secretaries and undersecretaries will also be reduced by 8 percent, and the savings will go to the “adultos mayores” senior citizens’ aid program.
