The former Social Communication Coordinator during Javier Duarte’s government, Gina Dominguez Colío, was apprehended last Saturday night by elements of the Ministerial police, reported “El Universal”.

According to police reports, the apprehension of the state ex-functionary took place in Xalapa, Veracruz, for being suspect of diverting public resources during her service.

Dominguez Colío occupied the Coordination of Social Communication from December 1st, 2010 to February 19th, 2014, period in which she even was known as the “Vice Governor” due to the alleged influence she had over Duarte.

During such period, she exercised almost absolute power, hard hand against the media and tight control of information.

After she left the Coordination, the Governor, today imprisoned in Guatemala, sent her to the Governor’s Office where she kept being one of the most powerful members of the state cabinet.

After leaving the state administration, Dominguez Colío opened several coffee shops and is said to be the owner of Strategical Services of Communication and Image, company which received 17 million pesos at the time she was spokeswoman.

Recent information states that a control judge has dictated one year of preventive detention.

During the whole imputation audience that lasted all Sunday morning, it was revealed that the General Prosecutor’s Office of the State (FGE) accused the ex-functionary of an alleged embezzlement of 100 million pesos.

Judge Verónica Portilla Suazo determined the cautionary measure of one year of prison after considering that there was risk of the former politician absconding since it was proven that she has several addresses under her name.
