Akin currently competes for the “Palme d’or” granted during 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival with the film “Aus dem nichts” (In the fade) to premiere on 26 May.

According to a statement, Fatih Akin’s work is an intercultural referent, indispensable character of the new German cinema, due to its outstanding vision of social issues and his versatility when capturing any kind of story.

He portrays perfectly the meaning of everybody’s “search in life”, either the decadence or the fortune, and he focuses especially in the overwhelming atmosphere that surrounds global immigration… In the same way, he works on the distinctions and similarities immersed in this complex contemporary issue.

“I have always been interested in outsiders, those who in some way have drifted out of the road, my work is sympathetic with prostitutes, homosexuals, lesbians, black and indigenous people, the unemployed, alcoholics, durg addicts, “night owls”, the homeless, the undocumented… all those persons who are always there, silently next to all of us”, said Fatih.

Akin’s style is striking, always inspired by cultural diversity and immigrant integration, through characters who mostly converge in a prevailing need of belonging, often placed in radical scenarios.
