School students, market vendors, residents and even staff from the municipal DIF, located next to “Las Cachinches” stream (that today looks more like a river), were evicted by Civil Protection personnel of San Miguel de Allende, as a preventive measure due to the increasing of this stream’s current; however, there is no risk of flooding as it happened back in 1998 in this area.
This was confirmed by the director of the Civil Protection local unit, Alan Alvarez, who also said that it was decided to suspend “The Xuchilitos” parade, with the participation of kindergarten children.
Alvarez explained that there is no rain expected for today and therefore, the stream water level should lower this afternoon, in addition he clarifyied that there are no signs of floodings probability.
Activities were suspended in the following schools: José Vasconcelos, Fray Pedro de Gante, Ignacio Allende, Leovino Zavala; as well as at the DIF office.
The shops in Plaza Guadalupe and some residents in Colonia Mezquites and Las Cuevitas had to be evicted, reason why the Civil Protection Director asked the population to take precautions and stay clear from the channels.
It should be noted that San Miguel de Allende has been recording heavy rain for the last 12 hours.
