COZUMEL, MX.-  A catamaran-type tourist boat with 95 German passengers and a baby sank partially after being left adrift and being dragged by the strong waves in the northern part of the island.

The engines of the boat “Mazu” failed halfway to Isla de la Pasión where they were taking tourists from a cruise. They were quickly dragged towards the high seas and the waves caused it to capsize.

Private boatmen, diving tourism services, hotels, extreme sports and fishing, went to the place and, after 20 minutes of maneuvers, evacuated all, both crew and passengers. Meanwhile, the partially submerged catamaran was towed by another boat to a dry marina.

The visitors came from the boat “Main Schiff 6” that landed this morning in Punta Langosta, and had contracted a tour with the company “Isla de la Pasión” to be taken to the place of the same name, boarding this boat, from the pier Aldora.Boat Sinking in Cozumel

It was towards this place where the Germans were taken by the different boats after their rescue. Although there was an ambulance in the place, nobody required medical attention.

A battleship of the Navy of Mexico went to the place of the initiate but did not intervene, the rescue being already taking place. Port Captaincy inspectors did not go to the dock to verify the status of passengers or investigate what happened.
