According to María Teresa Arnal, CEO of Google Mexico, the country, along with others such as Brazil, India and Indonesia, will be the engine for the growth of technology users…

MEXICO – Google is aware that the next billion users will come from countries like Mexico, so now it has focused on finding the needs and challenges of those markets to develop solutions, as is the case with the Datally application.

Currently, the company already has a billion users around the world thanks to applications such as YouTube or Google Maps, so the next step is to prepare for the arrival of new consumers.

Arnal stressed that the main challenges in these countries are connectivity, the lack of localized content and the prices of devices, so Google has already created two applications that can solve part of these challenges.

Datally

The first application launched by Google for its next billion users is called Datally, and it is available today in Spanish for Android devices.

In conference, Dhwani Shah, product manager of Google’s Next Billion Users team, said that the purpose of this application is to help people save up to 30% of their mobile data consumption because in many countries there is still confusion of the data administration registered by their devices and the one that they receive from their service providers.

This application allows knowing how much data is consumed per day, week and month, as well identifying which applications are the ones that spend more data and those that do it in the background, having the option called “data saver” to block them and generate savings.

To which is added a function called “Find Wi-Fi”, which allows you to find the networks to which the user can connect and even shows directions on a map to reach them. The application will have a size of only six megabytes and will be for Android 5.0 or higher.

Second app in development

Shah said that storage in smartphones is another problem in the target countries of Google. For example, a third of smartphone users in Mexico indicated that storage is finished every 15 days. This causes the device to begin to perform slowly and also generate user frustration.

To solve this problem they are designing an application, which is still in beta and will help free up space on the phone because it identifies duplicate files and eliminates the cache. In addition, it also allows you to find documents more easily by separating them into different folders, generates copies in the cloud and allows you to share files without an internet connection.
