Man detained at Cancun airport carrying more than 700,000 pesos in foreign currency

A man was arrested on Saturday January 6 at the International Airport of Cancun, Quintana Roo, after discovering that he was travelling with more than 700 thousand pesos among his belongings.

 

Agents of the Division of Regional Security, of the Federal Police (PF), noticed a suspicious attitude in the subject and proceeded to detain him in order to carry out a search of his baggage, when they discovered that he was hiding among his belongings cash distributed in different denominations of foreign currencies

The incident took place on terminal 2 of Cancun’s airport, and the man with a passport of the Gabonese Republic was arrested after he could not prove the legal origin of the money.

Among his belongings he carried 30,150 euros, 150 English pounds, 120 thousand African francs, 400 baisa coins and 19.5 rials, which are equivalent to more than 700,000 Mexican pesos (aproximatelly $35,000 USD).

The subject also indicated having Lebanese nationality, so he was read the Rights Book that Assists People in Detention and Mexican autohrities informed the consulate of both countries.

The detainee and insured objects were placed at the disposal of the Agent of the Public Ministry of the Federation.
