Six months before the end of the current administration, the municipal government has not completed the comprehensive rehabilitation project of the Hidalgo Market, in the city of Guanajuato.

Although the paperwork is ready, the city claims they have not received the economic resources to cover the expenses, so it looks like they will “inherit” the issue to the next administration, as stated by the PAN councilor Juan Carlos Delgado Zárate, secretary of the City Market Commission (Comisión de mercados de la ciudad).

Delgado Zárate said that the comprehensive project file is practically complete, but they don’t have the 100 million pesos (53.3 thousand usd) required, and most likely the City Hall is not going to obtain the resources before the end of the present adminstration.

“The comprehensive project is ready in paper, for the next municipal administration to seek the resources with federal and state governments and make it a reality, the integral restoration of the Hidalgo Market is absolutely necessary”, said the secretary.

The official pointed out that the amount of money invested in this important trade space is minimal in comparison with the number of demands.

Delgado Zárate concluded that the Municipal Public Works Plan 2017 and 2018 budget assigned to the Mercado Hidalgo was for preventive maintenance only, and so it is responsibility of the incoming adminsration to carry on with the project.
