The United States ambassador to Mexico announced that she will leave office this spring, amid tense relations between the two countries.
Roberta Jacobson wrote a note to the staff of the embassy in which she says: “After more than 31 years in the service of the government of the United States, I have reached a difficult decision, it is the right time to take on new challenges and adventures. I have already delivered my resignation, which will be effective as of May 5, 2018”.
The ambassador continued: “This decision is somewhat difficult because of my deep conviction of the importance of the Mexico-United States relationship and for knowing the very important moment in which this bilateral relation is right now”.
Bilateral diplomatic relationships have been tense since the arrival of Donald Trump to the White House and the two countries are in the midst of a renegotiation of the Free Trade Agreement, along with Canada.
