Villarreal Redux

It’s called the Villarreal Redux.  And for LAV, it’s not his second time at the rodeo.  Luis Alberto Villarreal has once again been elected  Mayor of San Miguel de Allende.  And if the name sounds familiar, his brother, Ricardo Villarreal was mayor from 2015 until March of this year.

Luis Albert Villarreal was first elected mayor of San Miguel de Allende in 2003.  Throughout his distinguished political career, Villarreal has served in a multitude of positions.

From 2000-2003 he served as deputy of the Congress of the Union for District 2 of Guanajuato. 2003-2006 was elected as municipal president of San Miguel de Allende. 2006-2012 worked as a senator to the Congress of the Union for Guanajuato and more recently, from 2012-2015 he was deputy to the Congress of the multi-member Union.

Campaigning under the slogan “with the people everything, without them nothing, Villarreal’s victory comes at a time when the city is exploding in growth.  Questions abound on traffic, crime, water, and a myriad of other issues the new mayor will face when he takes the reins of city hall this October.
