“During the last three years, 16 investment projects of the aerospace industry “landed” in the state of Querétaro, which together represent a capital of over 3 billion pesos”, according to a statement by the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).
“These projects, which were captured approximately from October 2015 to October 2018, represent 1,527 new jobs generated in this manufacturing industry”, said the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.
“Just in the current year, three new aerospace projects arrived in Queretaro, that represent a total investments of 300 million pesos and 200 new direct jobs”, said the state secretary.
“The metropolitan municipality of El Marqués is one of the areas that has attracted these new investments, settling especially in the Aerospace Park, next to the Intercontinental Airport of Querétaro. The investments came mainly from the United States and France”, he explained.
The representation of the aerospace industry in the state translates into a productive base of 8,500 jobs and 80 companies or organizations dedicated to this industry.
The aerospace sector stands out as one of the main engines of economic and manufacturing activity for Querétaro, and in the last 10 years, the state attracted up to 50% of the foreign direct investment (IED) related to aerospace in the country.
FDI in the state, for the manufacture of aerospace equipment, amounts to 972.4 million dollars in the period from 1999 to September 2018, according to data from the Ministry of Economy (SE).
The most significant investments in this industry were reported from 2008 to 2010, when FDI recorded a three-digit annual growth. We are talking about 698.1 million US dollars, that is, 71.7% of the 972.4 million reported from 1999 to September 2018.
Queretaro is ranked tenth in aerospace cities of the future in terms of FDI, according to the indicator Aerospace Cities of the Future 2018/19, issued by the Financial Times.
The state houses 80 companies and suppliers supporting the aerospace industry that are concentrated mainly in 26 Tier 1 and Tier 2, in addition to 19 that offer general services, 12 research centers, seven academic institutions, five develop special processes, five MRO, four of raw materials and two OEMs, details information of the Aeroclúster de Querétaro.
The state aerospace industry focuses on various products and services: aerostructures, heat treatments, surface treatments, complex component machining, composite materials, among others.
