Residents of La Presa de los Santos dam, in the municipality of Guanajuato, denounced that since Saturday Jan. 5th, the evident water pollution has killed hundreds (or even thousands) of fish that have emreged to the surface, situation which has become a dangeorus source of infection.
The local fauna is severely affected by a toxic agent or by the accumulation of rainfall that does not allow oxygenation, killing all living organisms.
The neighbors say that this is due to a sewage discharge from nearby houses in a highly irregular situation, in addition to the trash that walkers abandon during their visits to the dam.
AÂ considerable amount of boats, plastic bags, papers and other solid waste can be seen at the site, while a large number of aquatic vertebrates are floating on the edge of the dam.
However, the main entrance to the dam is the point with the largest accumulation of dead fish that give off an intense stench that invades the area.
The head of the General Directorate of Environment and Land Management has not issued any information on this matter.
On the other hand, the reports and efforts of the Municipal System of Potable Water and Sewerage of Guanajuato (Simapag) have not been sufficient to save the fauna, because it is worth remembering that in August 2012 the reservoir suffered a similar problem.
