Cancun, Q.R. — The State Attorney General of Quintana Roo reports that Ministerial Police officers succeeded in capturing American Dylan Bennett, who was wanted by U.S. authorities for the alleged murder of his parents.

Police in Cancun arrested the 22-year-old son of former NFL lineman, Barry Bennett. He was wanted by authorities in Minnesota for the August 19th death of his parents. His mother Carol, who would have been 64 Thursday and his 63-year-old father Barry Bennett who played 11 seasons for the NFL, were found shot to death at their home on Wednesday August 21 in the small town of Long Prairie, Minnesota.

In a press release, Quintana Roo State Attorney’s General Office reports Dylan Bennett was taken into custody on Saturday by Mexican authorities in Cancun when he was seen walking down the boulevard after a citizen reported him for aggressive behavior.

Responding to the report, police found the man and asked for his identification. Upon learning he was wanted by U.S. authorities, Bennett was taken into custody on Boulevard Kukulkan in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

In a statement, the Todd County Sheriff’s Office said “The FBI is taking him into custody now and will transport him to Minnesota in the coming days.” According to CNN, a sheriff’s investigator in Todd County has filed a complaint in district court accusing Bennett of two counts of second-degree murder without premeditation.

Bennett, who allegedly murdered his parents on Aug. 21, is now back in Minnesota after being extradited from Mexico.

New video shows the moments after Dylan Bennett was caught in Cancun. The Todd County Sheriff says the 22-year-old was taken into custody at a hotel Saturday afternoon.

Bennett has been charged with killing his parents in Long Prairie. Barry and Carol Bennett, Dylan’s parents, died of gunshot wounds in their Long Prairie Home on Aug. 21.

Since then, investigators learned Dylan Bennett bought an airline ticket from Ohio to Cancun earlier this week, the sheriff’s office said. Dylan’s cell phone, credit card and ATM activity were being tracked in Cancun.

Bennett contacted sheriffs just before his arrest, saying he intended to turn himself into the FBI. He was found at a hotel in Cancun, Mexico, just before noon Saturday Aug. 24th.

Bennett is now being held at the Todd County Jail. His first court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
