“The Mexican government has granted political asylum to the former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, to protect his integrity”, announced Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
In a press conference, Ebrard declared that Morales requested asylum in writing and verbally, so the government of Mexico decided to grant it.
Ebrard said the Mexican government notified the OAS and the UN of this resolution.
The Senate of the Republic will also be officially notified.
After the armed forces recommended him to resign, Morales left the presidency in a live television message.
On Sunday November 10th, Mexico offered political asylum to Evo Morales after his resignation from the presidency of Bolivia, under military pressure. The announcement was made by Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
