In a press conference, Ebrard declared that Morales requested asylum in writing and verbally, so the government of Mexico decided to grant it.

Ebrard said the Mexican government notified the OAS and the UN of this resolution.

The Senate of the Republic will also be officially notified.

After the armed forces recommended him to resign, Morales left the presidency in a live television message.
