MEXICO CITY (Times Media Mexico).- The National Water Commission (Conagua) warned of the drought suffered by more than 2,000 municipalities across Mexican territory.
Mexico suffers an alarming drought situation, which has affected more than 2,000 municipalities, as disclosed by the National Water Commission (Conagua), during a joint report in Guanajuato.
According to the head of Conagua, Blanca Jiménez Cisneros, an approximate of 257 municipalities in the country suffer from some degree of drought, a situation that is extremely alarming for its inhabitants.
In addition, Jiménez Cisneros argued that 756 municipalities suffer from an abnormally dry condition, while 320 have moderate drought and 181 have a severe or extreme level of drought.
Until November, it was reported that only 1,206 municipalities do not suffer from any type of drought in all of Mexico.
Due to the alarming situation, the owner of Conagua argued that they are working in order to allocate resources to solve the drought problem in the affected municipalities.
“These modifications have two objectives, one, to ensure transparency in access to economic resources fron the Natural Disaster Fund (Fondo de Desastres Naturales: FONDEN), and two, to allow access to resources in any month of the year, after corroboration of the event,” the head of Conagua concluded.
