The Guanajuato International Film Festival continued its activities at its second venue in San Miguel de Allende, from July 22 to 25, where it was possible to enjoy outstanding activities such as the screening of the official selection, tributes, and conferences on topics of the current industry.
The festival held an emotional and significant ceremony in honor of Mr. Arturo Ripstein the great exponent of Mexican cinema. This tribute, which took place at the Bicentennial Theater in the city of León, highlighted the director’s impressive career and lasting impact on the film industry.
Ripstein, accompanied by his son Gabriel Ripstein and his wife, the screenwriter Paz Alicia Garciadiego, was pleased by the review of his career, before the presentation of the GIFF’s Más Cine award and the UNAM Film Library Medal, one of the most important awards given by the University, made with pure silver extracted during the development process in the Film Library’s photochemical laboratory.
During the tribute, Ripstein received a standing ovation from the attendees, among whom were actors and actresses such as Arcelia Ramírez and Sylvia Pasquel, who participated in some of his films. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition and shared anecdotes as well as reflections on his career and his passion for telling stories through film.
