Hurricane Beryl: this was its passage through Quintana Roo (Watch Video)

urricane Beryl made landfall early this Friday north of Tulum, Quintana Roo, but so far no injuries or deaths have been reported, reported the Civil Protection coordinator, Laura Velázquez.

The impact in Quintana Roo was recorded at 05:05 local time with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gusts of 220 kilometers per hour. In addition, it is moving towards the west-northwest at a speed of 24 kilometers per hour.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that Hurricane Beryl was downgraded to category 1 after its impact on the Mexican coast.

The center of the hurricane is located on land 135 kilometers east-southeast of Progreso, Yucatán. At the moment, it has sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour, and the red alert is maintained.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that in Tulum approximately 40% of the area is without electricity, while in Cozumel seven neighborhoods have electricity problems. Furthermore, in Isla Mujeres, 50% of homes remain without electricity.

Although the authorities asked the general population to stay sheltered and not approach windows, some residents and tourists recorded Beryl’s arrival and passage through Quintana Roo with their phones.

One of the most viral videos on social networks is the recording of a security camera, which captured the waves of the sea and the sound that announced the arrival of Hurricane Beryl at 02:29 hours.
