The Attorney General’s Office of Guanajuato reported that operations continue to locate those responsible for the journalist’s death.

Last Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Celaya Citizen Security Secretariat (SSCC) reported the death of journalist Alejandro Martínez Nogués, known as ‘El hijo del llanero Solititito‘, after suffering a direct attack by a group of armed men who managed to escape from the crime scene.

The incident occurred minutes after Alejandro Martínez finished a broadcast on social networks about the coverage of a person run over in the municipality of Villagrán.

After finishing, “El hijo del llanero solititito” and his two bodyguards were driving from Villagrán to Celaya, on the Pan-American Highway, when they were victims of an armed attack orchestrated by men traveling aboard a truck.

Faced with this, his bodyguards transferred him to the General Hospital of Celaya, where the journalist lost his life. The news website led by the journalist, Alejandro Martínez, confirmed his death; said site covered community news, crime, and crime in Celaya, Guanajuato, the most dangerous city for police in Mexico.

The journalist had been assigned police protection in 2022 after he reported having received threats and being the victim of an attempted murder.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Guanajuato reported that a search for the probable perpetrators continues in coordination with the State and the Federation.

Alejandro Martínez Noguez worked as a journalist for 33 years, in print media, radio, and television in Guanajuato, specializing in crime coverage. In addition, he was a coach for university American football teams, a sport he was passionate about.

The journalist had a Facebook page with the name El Hijo del Llanero Solititito, from which he generated content on complaints and accidents in Celaya.

With that Facebook page, he became a local reference for coverage of police events. Her page had more than 340 thousand followers, who were shocked by her death.
