The 6-year-old boy who was reported missing on Tuesday, August 20th, from the Marroquín de Abajo community in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende has been found alive and well.

After being missing for more than 24 hours and after an intense day of searching, Fernando was found alive in a house in the community of San Gabriel, belonging to the municipality of Dolores Hidalgo.

After 8:30 at night, the discovery of the 6-year-old boy who disappeared on Tuesday afternoon from the Marroquín de Abajo community in San Miguel de Allende was reported, after he was abducted by a relative with the promise of taking him to see a movie.

Municipal and state authorities and elements of the Rural Defense Cavalry Corps of Sedena, in addition to neighbors, relatives, and citizens of San Miguel joined the search that began in the first minutes of Wednesday and continued throughout the day.

Fernando disappeared after playing in the hill area of his community when his uncle approached him and convinced him to go with him, to disappear walking through the hill.

According to unofficial sources, the person who took Fernando, a man named Ignacio Chávez between 60 and 70 years old, has a history of child abuse, so there were fears for the child’s safety.

Allegedly, the same man would have left the child with some relatives and then fled the place. So far, the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrator are unknown.

The population of San Miguel showed empathy and solidarity by joining the search for the child, making their vehicles, drones, and even horses available, and actively participating in the tours.

Agents of the State Attorney General’s Office guarded the area where the minor was located to later take Fernando to his family.
