At the beginning of the year, the outlook was not encouraging; those living around the Allende Dam saw it as a distant dream that it could recover and become an attractive site for visitors again.
Thanks to the recent and constant rains, the Allende Dam has reached 57.9 percent of its capacity, so residents of nearby communities are celebrating its recovery.
At the beginning of the year, the outlook was not encouraging; those living around the Dam saw it as a distant dream that it could recover and become an attractive site for visitors again, and they even feared not being able to continue fishing due to the low level it reached.
Now, little by little, hope is recovering, although with it the iris is proliferating and they must continue to focus on fighting it, since it represents a threat to the reservoir.
The efforts have not diminished, the call to go clean the dam is common on social networks, in the various groups they even organize “fundings” to rent machinery to remove the lily that they take out and throw on the banks; the operators of these machines charge up to 3 thousand pesos per hour of work.
Those who live near the reservoir are the most aware of the benefits of having a healthy dam, that is why they are the ones who celebrate the rains and go every day to remove, even a little bit of lily.
The rainfall of the last few weeks has increased the level of rivers and reservoirs in the municipality, even causing some damage due to the lack of maintenance in the infrastructure.
So far the reservoirs that have the highest levels are Puerto de Nieto, which is at 100 percent of its capacity, and Cerritos, which registers 75% of its capacity and last week, during the storm, had runoff causing the road to flood.
