The Mexican shot put athlete Gloria Zarza won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a mark of 8.06 meters.
On Monday, September 3, the Mexican athlete won the gold medal after breaking her own record in the F54 shot put that she previously set in Tokyo 2020.
The feat took place at the Stade Charléty, where the athlete had six opportunities to throw, achieving records of 7.81m, 8.06m, 8.01m, 7.89m, and 7.97m. The mark of 8.06 was the one that gave her the medal. In addition, her fourth throw was invalid.
In her wheelchair she celebrated her merit by ringing the champions’ bell. Gloria Garza commented that with her triumph she feels very happy and content to give Mexico its first gold medal.
Originally from Zinacantepec, State of Mexico, Gloria Zarza has become one of the most outstanding Paralympic athletes in the country, reaching great marks and achievements under her belt, such as the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and having surpassed her mark of 8.04 that she obtained at the world championship in Kobe, Japan in 2024, where she also obtained her gold medal.
