The governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise, informed the Guanajuato Congress of the resignation of the prosecutor to the president of the Local Congress, Rolando Fortino Alcantar Rojas, for the appropriate legal effects.

The Attorney General of the State, Maestro Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre, presented his resignation effective as of January 1, 2025.

Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre is a Mexican politician, lawyer, and official. From 2009 to the present, he was the attorney general and prosecutor of the state of Guanajuato.

During his administration, he faced criticism for the increase in crimes and murders in Guanajuato. In addition, he was accused of establishing links with organized crime and acts of corruption such as money laundering, drug protection, and protection of criminal groups.

Zamarripa was one of the prosecutors who remained in office the longest in the country.

The State Congress must elect a new prosecutor
Based on the first paragraph of article 95 of the Local Constitution, after the definitive absence of the Prosecutor, the Congress will have twenty days to “integrate a list of at least five candidates for the position, approved by two-thirds of the members present, which will be sent to the Governor of the State”, in this case to the governor.

By constitutional provision, Libia Dennise García could appoint a prosecutor, who will exercise his functions until the definitive appointment is made.

Carlos Zamarripa joined the prosecutor’s office in 1994, where he held the position of ministerial officer (secretarial work), rose to delegate, agent of the Public Ministry, head of zone, director of the Ministerial Police, and deputy prosecutor of the Specialized Unit for High Impact Crimes; in 2009 he was sworn in as Attorney General of the State and in 2018 he was sworn in as Attorney General of the State.
