Music and giant Mojigangas made in San Miguel de Allende were part of the first edition of TEDx Calle Aldama’s “Echoes of Resilience” at the Matilda Hotel in SMA.

Different personalities participated in the event led by Julio Cambron, such as the artist Angelo Musco, the chef Ricardo Muñoz Zurita, the war reporter Anjan Sundaram, the writer Luz Marcela Vera, the artisan Hermes Arroyo and Sasha Carrión, who inspired the attendees with their projects and life stories.

TEDx Calle Aldama began with Hermes Arroyo, who shared his story of tradition and art in the fusion of the past and the present in the creation of Mojigangas.

“Mojigangas are a little piece of San Miguel and I have made them in all sizes. I started because of the need I had to create them and take them everywhere, like in the Vatican, where my Mojigangas danced crazily. I am proud because my work has gone to many places and my life is a story of resilience and I want to fill the world with Mojigangas,” said the Mexican artisan who has been making them for 45 years.

Alejandra Lagunes spoke about artificial intelligence and mental health: “Technology cannot be our owner; we are its owners and it is our co-pilot. AI has to migrate to being a collective intelligence and we need to use it responsibly.”

Diego Jiang, a global strategist, spoke about how cultural differences enrich us and open worlds of possibilities.

During the event, the speakers talked about topics such as the new holistic era, philanthropic foundations as a way to help the world, and reprogramming minds to transform lives.

Angelo Musco presented ideas about his art, which has been presented in different parts of the world.

A very inspiring story was that of Luz Marcela Vera, an advocate for environmental sustainability and community development in San Miguel de Allende with En Tierra y Amor, a project dedicated to protecting bee ecosystems and promoting their fundamental role in biodiversity and agriculture through education and sustainable practices.

Renowned chef Ricardo Muñoz Zurita said that Mexican gastronomy is experiencing one of the best moments in its history.

Journalist Anjan Sundaram spoke of his work in conflict and war zones: “I discovered that art can provide the tools to tell these stories because journalism as art can be transformative.”

Sundaram presented a series of art pieces made from clothing with which he has covered conflicts, such as his work in Michoacán with environmental defenders.

Julio Cambron said he hopes to soon present a second edition of TEDx Calle Aldama with different speakers and thanked the Hotel Matilda and the sponsors who made the first edition possible, which seeks to inspire and change lives.

“This is not just an event, it is a catalyst for personal growth and collective action,” he concluded.
