The Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende – Midday is planning to plant trees, trees and more trees again Wednesday, June 7, at Las Brisas Park atop the hill behind the Red Cross as part of the international president’s goal to plant one tree per member. A forest is considered to be 50 trees to a hectare, so this would be about 24,000 hectares worth of trees, which is about 50,000 acres or 75 square miles of trees worldwide. “Our club’s goal is two trees per person,” said President Nate Fultz.

The upshot will be cleaner air because trees filter air pollution. More trees mean lower temperatures and more oxygen as trees use carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. More trees also will provide more shade, a nice thing to have in San Miguel.

“Our goal this year at Las Brisas Park will be to follow the locations of purposed sidewalks. We hope to line the area with many different varieties of low-maintenance trees to offer the future shade that people like. And, we will plant some trees that attract butterflies,” Fultz continued.

Anyone interested in helping can contact Fultz at [email protected] or 415-149-6901.  “We are hopeful that individuals, organizations, schools and church groups will be join in,” concluded Fultz.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. Rotary meets every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Hotel Mision, Salida a Queretaro 1. The meetings are free and in English.
