On April 18, the Guanajuato municipal director of Ecology said that it will be necessary to find a new place for the final disposal of the solid waste generated in the state capital, since the current one will have to be closed at the end of its useful life time.
José Martín Romero González, municipal director of Ecology, announced that the search for a new place to be turned into the new dumpsite has been difficult, due to the geography of the city since it is not suitable for this type of project.
The task has been complicated, at the same time they have to comply with the established regulations, otherwise a civil engineering work for its adaptation would have to be done.
It was revealed that three technical studies are intended to determine how much useful life time is left to the current dump, in addition to knowing its current situation, and that it was indicated that it has been in operation for 30 years and is about to reach the end of its useful life.
Romero González commented that it will be the state and federal authorities who will authorize the new site of Solid Waste Disposal, which complies with the standards established by Semarnat, but for this the Ecology office must first locate the land.
