About 80% of young girls lose their self-esteem when they reach puberty due to misinformation in countries like Mexico.
During the signing of the agreement, it was said that there are entire communities that have never seen a textbook that talks about menstruation. In an uninformed culture, menstruation is considered shameful, dirty, or something to be hidden.
This is especially difficult for young women who do not know how to manage it. Essential health supplies are out of financial reach for most.
So the project provides education, opportunities and sustainable solutions for girls who reach puberty, in a healthy way.
Education, opportunity and sustainability
It is carried out through three main facets: education, opportunity and sustainability. The Education delegate, Juan Rendón, said that the first approach is that the project reaches 300 girls in the first stage, but that by the end of the year they can reach 2,000.
The girls will have to take a series of courses and from the fourth they can already be given a menstrual control kit with effective, washable and reusable products that can last from 3 to 4 years.
This is intended to ease the financial burden on each girl and solve the problem of environmentally harmful commercial products.
In San Miguel schools, teachers will explain menstruation to girls
San Miguel de Allende is the first municipality where such a project is started. According to the Education delegate, the idea is to take it to the municipalities of Ocampo , San Felipe , Dolores Hidalgo and San Diego de la Unión .
The SEG will coordinate the first stage of the program in the months of January to April, with two to three workshops per week in rural primary schools.
Each workshop consists of five 2-hour modules that empower approximately 20 girls per workshop.
The representatives of the Rotary Club assured that there are resources to enter all the municipalities of the I North region.
